We continue to be inspired by the amazing #WeArePlay stories from all corners of the earth, from app and game creators on Google Play. This month, we hear about how a financial app for women in Nigeria was transformed into an early learning platform using augmented reality.

First, we are in Nigeria. There, Sorape and his girlfriend Yomi, both former investment banking colleagues, applied their economic expertise to improving women’s access to finance. HerVest is an app designed specifically for farmers and small business owners, featuring savings and investment tips, financial education, and credit options. Aiming to improve gender equality in the financial sector, the pair plan to increase the number of women to one million by the end of 2024 and “become the go-to financial platform for economically disadvantaged people in Africa”. .

Now we’re heading across the ocean to Maritime Singapore, where Juliana from Brazil has launched a baby-led weaning app, BLW Meals. When her oldest son was 6 months old, she had a hard time transitioning him to solid foods. Unable to find suitable resources in her native Portuguese, she decided to create her own platform to share everything she has learned. Now, she’s thrilled with how much the app (also available in Spanish and English) is helping other mothers with their weaning journeys. We’ll soon be launching a new feature that lets you chat directly with a nutritionist, giving parents access to expert guidance at any time.

#WeArePlay Harry and Luke Visible London, UK g.co/play/weareplay Google Play

Next, we head to the UK to meet Harry, a mechanical engineer on a mission to change perceptions about energy-limiting health conditions. After suffering from a mild infection in 2020, when I developed a long-term COVID-19 infection, I could no longer count on my ability to do the wild athletic activities I once enjoyed (like cycling across Iceland). Disappointed by the lack of treatment options, he decides to team up with his friend Luke, a technology lawyer, to create a health monitoring app. Visible allows patients to track and monitor their symptoms and activity levels. The anonymized data will also be used by medical researchers to improve understanding and treatment options, contributing to Harry’s larger goal of “working to change health policy legislation to recognize these conditions” To do.

#WeArePlay Iran, Nastasya, Edison Pleiku Santiago, Chile g.co/play/weareplay Google Play

Finally, we head to Chile in South America to meet the brothers Ilan and Edison and their friend Nastasya. A true dream team, the trio began their engineering careers running an augmented reality advertising agency in their native Venezuela. But after seeing how much kids loved their commercials, they decided to leverage their AR skills to develop an educational platform for kids instead. After being offered a spot in an accelerator program, they moved to Chile and launched his PleIQ, an immersive early learning app for children ages 3 to 8. Next, we are expanding across Latin America with the goal of “improving the quality of education and creating more equal societies.”
