ATLANTA, GA June 14, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Nexcess, a premium hosting provider optimized for WordPress, WooCommerce, and Magento, today announced research on the effectiveness of AI and the human ability to detect it in content and visuals.

The study found that, on average, respondents were able to identify AI-generated content only about 55% of the time.

How to conduct research

A side-by-side set of images and copy was provided to 1,000 individuals who claimed to have some familiarity with AI.

For each set, they were asked to identify which were generated by AI and which were created by humans.

Participants correctly identified the AI-generated copies 57% of the time, but the success rate in detecting the AI-generated images was only 53%.

Success rates varied by participant age. Younger generations were more likely to be successful in detecting AI. Participants aged 18 to 24 answered correctly 61% of the time, compared to 51% of participants aged 45 to 54.

Utilization of AI and its impact on business

Tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Copy.ai have exploded in popularity. The use of AI technology is of interest to both the public and businesses.

The study found that participants had some success in correctly identifying AI-generated copies and images. Overall, participants were more likely to detect her AI-generated copy than her AI-generated visual.
