Recently, the brand shared a story about logo design and showcased it rather than just talking about the importance of logos and the style used by the brand. Kapwing recreated his six iconic logos using six widely different graphic styles to emphasize the prominence and status of these icons in the world of branding.

The six logos included in the article are Apple, McDonald’s, Instagram, Google, Nasa, and World Wildlife Fund. His six approaches used are Art Nouveau, Bauhaus, Psychedelic, Pop Art, Retro 80s, and 3D Design. For a brand that has gone through many logo iterations, it’s interesting to see how past logos stack up with the styles they include. For example, Apple’s Art Nouveau logo surprises Apple’s original logo from the late ’70s, which features a woodcut depicting Isaac Newton sitting under an apple tree and the words “Apple Computer CO.” It’s fairly similar. It features dramatic draping around the frame.

Kapwing features 36 iterations of these logos, and in my humble opinion, there are a few standout designs. In fact, to me, his 80’s retro version of the NASA logo better represents the nature of the brand than the current one. Additionally, World Wildlife Fund and Google’s 3D design seems like a great fit moving forward. Each touts “originality,” and both brands could use a little more personality in their branding identities. McDonald’s psychedelic version is very interesting, but I don’t think this vibe of the Taco Bell logo could be more perfect.

However, this article leaves readers on a critical note. “What lessons do you have for logo designers?” they ask. “We draw inspiration from style movements while staying boldly true to our brand. It takes integrity and talent to create an icon that burns into the world’s retinas.”
