Hello! My name is Yannis Yannakopoulos and I am an independent developer from Athens, Greece. I often build websites, try out the generation art and modular synths, and combine the latter two with audio reactive sketches. I was in the field for over 15 years, and about half of it worked independently and worked with studios and individuals all over the world.
This is a small list of my most favourite projects in recent years.
My personal website was designed by Brijan Powell almost two years ago, and I still love all the pixels of it. There are various versions and some Easter eggs included!
A small personal project to collect music releases and more. It’s been running for over a decade now, and recently Isabel Moranta has taken it to the next level with a fresh design! Take a look around. You may find something interesting to listen to!
This time, another collaboration with Isabel for her personal portfolio. We’ve created a detailed case study about this very site. You can read here: Case Study: Isabelle Moanta Portfolio – 2024
It’s not my actual project, it’s a fun exercise of what I love. Genuary is the annual creative coding challenge that takes place throughout January, encouraging artists, designers and developers to use code to generate ARTs.
I completed my second Generi this year again since 2023 and learned a lot along the way. 31 Daily sketches created with GLSL are a way to practice and learn new skills. You can see the full list here, but here are some previews.
More about me
I started coding in the era of Macromedia dreamweaver and Flash and sliced Photoshop images of Button Hover. I worked for several studios and agencies over the years until I decided to go independent about seven years ago.
My main goal in all my projects is to create something that feels right for everyone involved in the process.
What I’ve learned over the years is that it’s not about tools or ideal routines or workflows. It’s about thinking, aesthetics and ideas. When you try to understand how a tool works under the hood, you can easily adapt to a particular tool or environment by looking strong into the details, constantly experimenting, trying new things in both client and individual projects.
And remember: Sometimes if you don’t go to extremes, you won’t go anywhere.
When I’m not at work, I mainly explore the oscillators, MIDI and patches of modular synths. I’m currently developing a small audio reactive library for use in live synth setups. I’d like to move forward, dig deeper into the shader and explore the various media as well.
Thank you Codrops for being a source of constant inspiration from day one! I am extremely proud to have been featured on this site over the years!
